Let’s begin.

What Is Email List Building?

email marketing to increase blog traffic

Creating an email list isn’t the only thing, you will have to increase the number of subscribers regularly.

Email list building is a process of getting more email subscribers.

The bigger the number the merrier.

Building an email list is a part of growth and as a blogger, you should give some attention to your email list growth.

However, never obsess about it.

Remember it is just a number. The value lies in your emails.

And never think about buying an email list for marketing. This isn’t ideally true.

You should always be collecting email lists legally. Only when your subscribers have willingly given you their emails.

DON’T BUY AN EMAIL LIST.

So, you know what is list building but how to get more email subscribers?

How To Grow Your Email List? – 11 Tips

I have collected the best tips for growing your email list. Some of them I have tried and some I have learned about after reading a few posts.

1 – Add Pins To Pinterest.

Pinterest is a great way to grow an email list.

All you have to do is to create pins for your signup form and add its link to the link column on the pin builder window.

This simple trick will help you get a lot of sign-ups for your email list if Pinterest works great for you.

I have got a few signups using Pinterest.

However, if you need help with Pinterest I want you to check out Amy’s Scheduling Shortcuts.

2 – Add Your Signup Form To The Sidebar.

Want to ask every browser visitor to subscribe to your email list?

Add it to your sidebar. It is one of the best places where your sign-up form can be.

I have also got a lot of sign-ups by adding my main signup form to my blog’s sidebar.

3 – Include It In Your Blog Posts.

You can add your email sign-up form to your blog posts.

Or you can also create a separate form for a group of similar topics. Just like Hubspot does it.

They have a different form for different blog posts.

It is a great trick if you want to grow your email list quickly. Plus it will help you segment your email list based on their interest in topics.

4 – Make It The Pinned Tweet On Twitter.

To grow more email subscribers you can try this method.

Create a captivating twitter post with an image about your email signup. You can use Canva to create it.

Tweet about it including a link to the signup form. After you have tweeted, pin it to your profile.

Whenever someone visits your profile, it will be the first tweet he sees.

More visibility and more subscribers.

5 – Add A Link To Your Instagram Bio.

This is one of the simplest list-building tips.

Just add a link to your email signup form to your Instagram bio. Whoever visits your profile will check it out.

Or if you want to add other links also, sign up for lnk.bio and create a free account. Keep your email form link to the top.

BTW, you can find me on Instagram here

6 – Promote On Facebook Groups.

Do you think about how to grow your email list using Facebook?

By promoting your signup form on Facebook groups. It is where other bloggers like you connect.

If you are in a few Facebook groups (if not, make sure to join those where you think your target audience would be) promote your email forms there.

Also, you can find a lot of subscribers on groups that are based on your blog niche

7 – Enable Pop-Ups.

Popups can also help you in getting more email list sign-ups.

The only thing that I don’t like about them is that they can be annoying. I’ve heard from a few Facebook groups that people leave a website because of annoying pop-ups.

I think this is one of the reasons why I haven’t tried it.

But if you want to give them a try then remember that your awesome freebie with irresistible headlines will always rock.

What and What? Read below.

8 – Offer Freebies.

List building is a lot easier when you are offering something for free.

Don’t just ask your readers to sign up for your newsletter. Instead, ask them if they want this awesome free stuff that you are giving.

Fortunately, you can easily create a freebie. Some of the examples of freebies are

  • Checklists
  • ebooks
  • PDFs
  • Free training session
  • Templates
  • And more.

You can create all of them using Canva

So come up with a nice idea and create a freebie for your email list.

9 – Write Irresistible Headlines On Signup Forms.

To get more email subscribers write irresistible headlines on your signup form using a large and bold font.

Writing bigger and bolder text will make sure your prospects see it and irresistible headlines will make sure they sign up for it.

10 – Add A Link To Your Author Bio On Guest Posts.

How about growing your email list from other small businesses and bloggers?

Whenever you are writing a guest post for other bloggers make sure to add a link to your signup form to your author bio.

I’ve done it a few times and got email signups.

11 – Grow Your Blog Traffic.

The best way to build an email list is to grow your blog traffic. When you get lots of traffic you get lots of browser visitors who you can turn into subscribers by using the above tricks.

If you are not sure how to grow blog traffic here are some blog posts that I’ve written.

  1. Well I just definitely learned one thing Ekta! I didn’t know you could pin a tweet on Twitter! These are great tips for building your email list. I had someone tell me recently that they weren’t interested in growing their email list. I had to quickly tell them WHY they NEEDED one! Out of these 11 things, I need to work on my headlines the most!

    1. You are so right Heather! No blogger should ignore building an email list. Yes, twitter pinned tweet is awesome. I have got a few email subscribers from there.

  2. Thanks for these tips. Have never really thought about using social media for sign ups, so you’ve given me something to think about here. Thanks.

    1. I’ve tried it Tyanne. It works. I have been able to get some email signups by promoting my freebies in weekly threads in Facebook groups.

    1. Thanks for reading Amanda. As you can see, I have my best performing sign up form in my side bar. It gets me occasional subscribers. Best wishes.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Rachel. The good news is that I have tried and tested all these tips. With some efforts, you will soon have a thriving email list.

  3. I am going to try some of these in order to grow our mailing list, we already offer freebies but it seems like Pinterest should be the way to go! Thank you Tia x

    1. Pinterest is very helpful when you have a great amount of traffic. However, for growing my email list I had tried twitter pinned tweet and it worked very well. I hope you grow your list.

  4. Great post! I’m just getting started with my email list so I need all the help that I can get! I’m mainly concentrating on providing freebies and valuable content through my emails. I haven’t tried adding a link in guest posts but I should try that! Thanks for the post.

    1. Thanks Sumedha! Giving freebies is one of the best ways to build an email list. I haven’t tried it but I’m sure that people will sign up to your newsletter without a freebie only if they are following you for long.

  5. Hey Ekta,
I have to admit that when I saw your headline to this post I didn’t think I’d find any new strategy. I was wrong. While I have tried most strategies and so far don’t have much success, I would like to check out the first one for Pinterest, since most of my traffic comes from it.

Could you elaborate a bit more about how that would work? So you create a pin with a link to your signup form instead of your blog post? Or is the link to the signup form within the post? And I’m a bit hazy on where you would place it.
    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks, Mr. Nadim! Yes, that’s how it works. You create a Pinterest pin and add the link to your sign up form. I think a blog post with a sign up form can also work well especially if it is focused around it. Hope this helps.

  6. Hi Tia, I have a quick question that isn’t related to this post. Could you please tell me the size of your featured images that you use on your posts? The size I use on my posts is to big for my featured images, I’m using 1,000 X 1,500 and a lot of the information is getting cut out. Thanks Scott
