Why Do You Need A Content Plan For Blog?
Having a blog strategy in hand will help you in these ways.
- Planning ahead of time.
- Make a strategic plan.
- Stick to your blog niche.
- Have an idea of your upcoming launches.
- Improve your blog according to your strategy.
- Don’t have to worry about your next blog post.
- Keep a record of your growth.
- And the lesson learned from my story.
There are many benefits of having a blog plan but these are those where beginners make a mistake.
So it is time when I tell you how to plan your blog content.
How To Create A Blog Content Strategy?
Creating a website content plan is the first part of the content marketing guide that I wrote on this blog, so if you want to check it out then you can open it in the new tab.
The second part is about effectively marketing content plans.
What Should Be Included In A Content Strategy?
Ideally, the simpler the better.
When I planned my first strategy I kept it very basic and later on, I added other things. So I think for now your strategy should be simple.
Here are some things that you may want to include in your content plan for the website.
- The Number Of Blog Posts – Decide a day when you will publish your new blog post. For example, I publish new blog posts every Tuesday. This way you will be publishing 4 new blog posts every month.
- Blog Post Titles – A list of your blog content ideas. You can also decide on titles.
- Guest Blog Posts – If you write guest posts then decide on a number and day when you will publish. I publish 2 per month.
- Update Old Posts – Decide the number of blog posts you will update and when. I update 2 per month.
So if you follow the numbers, our website content plan template would have a rough structure something like this.
1st WEEK – Publish 1 new blog post and 1 guest post.
2nd WEEK – Publish 1 new blog post and update 1 old post.
3rd WEEK – Publish 1 new blog post and 1 guest post.
4th WEEK – Publish 1 new blog post and update 1 old post.
You can create a monthly content plan or yearly. Must remember to choose something doable. For example, don’t aim to write 8 guest blogs in a month because this way you would be writing 14 posts in a month.
You can also repeat the process to organize blog content for the whole year.

This is how to write a website content plan. But this is just one part. The next step involves the research part.
How To Develop A Blog Content Strategy In 9 Steps?
After creating your website content template follow these steps to form a strong strategy.
Make sure you are following every step.
STEP 1 – Know Your Objective.
Remember I told you that every blog post has to perform a task? This is where it becomes important.
It is time to think why in the first place you started your blog? For instance, I started this blog to help beginner bloggers blog better.
Therefore, every blog post on my blog is written to fulfill this goal.
Find out your blog goal and write it down on the top. The blog planner has a whole page dedicated to the blog’s mission statement.
Please note that you have to keep your blog goal in mind but there are other goals also. Such as
- Grow blog traffic.
- Collect emails.
- Affiliate sales.
- And more.
So be very clear about what you want to achieve in a blog post.
Also, your blog goals will change as you grow your blog so you should also change your goals.
STEP 2 – Create An Ideal Target Audience Profile.
Your blog posts should always speak to your Target Audience.
One of the best website content practices is to write content that solves your readers’ problems.
First of all, you need to create an ideal profile for your blog reader.
Once you know your ideal reader it is time to find out the questions that they are asking.
So how do you find them? By guessing? Not the right way.
The best place to find out the right questions is the “people also ask” section.
Write a term you want to write about and see what comes below.
Write these ideas in a notebook for future reference.
STEP 3 – Define A Specific Blog Niche.
Once you have a list of 50 to 100 topics that are popular among your target audience it is time to make sure that they fall into your blog niche.
I know it may not sound important but you should follow this step to avoid writing on irrelevant topics.
If you don’t have a blog niche yet here is a guide.
STEP 4 – Conduct A Keyword Research.
Perform thorough keyword research of each topic to find out these things.
- Total Search Volume.
- Type of content on search results.
- Difficulty to rank.
- And more.
You can use your favorite keyword research tool to perform the task.

Once you have all of this done and data collected find out the best ones that are easy for you to start with.
The easiest ones are those that have a high search volume and low SEO difficulty.
STEP 5 – Create A Blog Schedule.
Now create a blog schedule that you can follow easily.
Your blog schedule can include your common blogging tasks such as
- One blog post per week.
- Repurpose old post.
- Keyword research.
- Writing blog posts.
Plan a blog schedule that you can follow easily.
STEP 6 – Start Creating Quality Blog Posts.
Once you have a solid blog plan in place it is time to start writing blog posts.
Each blog post in your blog should be written to fulfill a goal.
STEP 7 – Promote Your Posts Well.
Writing blog posts is just one part.
You will have to promote your blog posts well to get them seen by your target audience.
STEP 8 – Optimize Old Blog Posts.
Optimizing old blog posts is one of the most ignored SEO strategies.
I have recently realized the importance of updating old blog posts after learning from Neil Patel’s blog.
Google loves websites that regularly update their information.
And you should too.
Some of the ways to optimize old posts are
- Delete obsolete information.
- Add new images.
- Add more paragraphs.
- And more.
STEP 9 – Stick To Your Plan.
Is this the end? No.
Follow the same process for creating new blog posts and make sure that you are following the blog schedule.
Once you have 15 to 20 blog posts on your blog it is time to organize your website content.
So this is how to plan the contents of a blog.
I hope you have a strong blog content strategy in hand.
Creating a blog plan is not hard. The real trick is to stick to it.
When I planned everything out I decided that I would stick to my blog strategy if I want to grow my blog.
And I am so glad that I did that.
After following the strategy for a few months I am more organized and I can see my blog moving in the right direction.
And now that you have your blog content plan prepared I’m sure you will see growth soon.
